North Central Family Support Program

We are a non-profit organization that provides family support and information to families in North Central Calgary.

We are committed to provide educational opportunities and workshops for parents and families as well as helping families find resources in their community.

In 2017 - 2018, we are planning outreach and family social connection activities across the North Central region. We'd love to hear your ideas for programs, workshops and resources that will be of interest to you and your children.

Our Current Activities:

Social Connection Walking Group!
Just 30 minutes a day walking outdoors can tone your limbs, strengthen your heart, lower stress and risk of chronic diseases, and increase energy! We meet twice a week, Wednesday and Friday mornings, at 9 am until 10am, at the doors of the Huntington Hills Community Centre. Strollers and dogs are welcome!

Family Day Skate
Friday afternoon, February 16, 12:30-2:00 pm

Come join the Huntington Hills Community Association and Family Connections Parent Link, North Central Family Support Program for a Family Day Skate. All children 17 and under must have a buckled helmet and skates to be on the ice participating in this Free event. It is recommended that everyone, children and adults wear helmets (hockey or biking when on the ice. Please wear mittens and proper footwear, preferably skates. Skate with care and respect (no racing) and No hockey sticks.

Canada Safety Council Babysitting Course
Saturday, February 10, 9:00-2:00

One Day Course
Babysitting Program – 11 years +
The Babysitter Training Course covers such topics as:

  • Becoming a successful babysitter
  • Caring for children from three months to school-aged
  • The behaviour and misbehavior of children
  • Handling Emergencies
  • Caring for sick or injured child
  • Prevention and basic First Aid

GEMS - Girls Empowered through Mentorship and Support

Are you interested in being a part of a new, fun, & creative girls group in your community? Join GEMS and learn “real life” skills, create cool things to take home, and meet new friends!!

Where: Huntington Hills Community Association – Lower Boardroom (520- 78 Ave NW)
When: Wednesdays Afterschool! January 17 – February 28, 2018
Time: Doors open at 3:30 pm; Programming from 4 pm – 5:30 pm
Who: Girls 9-12 years old
Cost: FREE! Snacks, bus tickets, and tons of fun included

FOCUS For Attention
FOCUS for Attention (Families & Others Connecting to Utilize Strategies & Solutions)
This is a monthly group for parents/caregivers of children/youth with ADHD or suspected ADHD. There are many challenges and celebrations in a family where ADHD is present. Join us for strategies, information, resources, guest speakers and the opportunity to network. The program is free, but intake/registration is required.
Dates for 2018: an 16, Feb 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5

Outreach Community Advocate
The Northern Hills Community Association, the Bow West Community Resource Centre and the North Central Family Support program, are working together to meet the needs of our neighbours in the ever expanding regions of North West and North Central Calgary. Germaine, Outreach Community Advocate, from Bow West Community Resource Centre, is available to offer Basic Need Appointments

She’ll provide outreach, information and referral support for singles, seniors and adults who do not have children under 18 living at home.
