North Central Family Support Program

We are a non-profit organization that provides family support and information to families in North Central Calgary.

We are committed to provide educational opportunities and workshops for parents and families as well as helping families find resources in their community.

In 2019-2020, we are planning outreach and family social connection activities across the North Central region. We'd love to hear your ideas for programs, workshops and resources that will be of interest to you and your children.

FOCUS for Attention: Fall 2019
September 10, October 15, November 12, December 10 - 7:00 to 9:00pm

North Central Family Support Program - Huntington Hills Community Centre

There are many challenges and celebrations in a family where ADHD is present. All parents and caregivers of children and youth with ADHD are invited to this monthly support group. Join us for strategies, information, resources, guest speakers and the opportunity to network.

Girls Empowerment Event - For girls ages 9-12
Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 from 4:30-7:00pm

The Huntington Hills Community Centre Gymnasium, 520 78 Ave NW

Come join us for an empowering evening; opening smudge ceremony, drum circle with a variety of drums from around the world and a letting go ceremony. No experience necessary. Please bring an open mind and willingness to try something new!! Food and fun provided. No cost involved.

***Registration and completed waiver signed by parent/guardian is required to attend***

Family Sock Hop
Friday evening, September 20, 6:30-8:00 pm

Come join us for an evening of dancing in your socks as we say goodbye to Summer. Grab your brightest, silliest, funniest socks and join us for a fun evening of dancing in the GYM.

This is a registered event, and registration will run August 26 – September 13. Call 587-392-2271 to register.

This event is for families who have attended programs in the last 6 months. Families must pick up their ticket for the dance before the night of the event.

* Food and drinks will not be served at this event. We will have bottled water available during the dance and a snack for you to take home as you leave.

This event is being put on through partnership with North Central Family Support and the Building Strong Lone Parenting programs.

Family Fun Fair
Tuesday morning, July 23, 10:00-11:30

Come join us at the Huntington Hills Community Association arena to participate in a variety of interactive games, activities and crafts, with a small snack provided. The Family Fun Fair is for children, infant to twelve years of age. There will be lots of information on resources available in the community as well as fun activities to do over the summer. Please feel free to bring your camera as we have invited some special guests!

This event is made possible with the partnership of the North Central Family Support and Lone Parent Programs, and the Family Connections Parent Link Centre. We look forward to seeing you there!

GEMS: Afterschool Program
Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 pm

Girls Empowered through Mentorship and Support (GEMS) is an after-school girls’ group for girls ages 9-12. Join GEMS to learn about “real life” skills, create cool things to take home and meet new friends!

Family Social Connection Creative Café Mondays!
Mondays 7pm – 8:30pm, HHCA Auxiliary Gym

Bring your creative, crafty projects (knitting, rug hooking, crochet, stamp collecting…) Teach others / Learn from others – we have some supplies on hand if you are just starting. Our Wonderful volunteer leader, Sandra, will be on site to help you with ideas. There is no childcare but there is space for little ones to keep busy.

Do you have yarn stashed away that you would like to donate? Crochet hooks or knitting needles not in use? Other creative supplies collecting dust? Support our community by providing an opportunity for families to connect with others, get creative & learn new crafting skills. Healthy Babies

Consultations with pregnant women with children up to 12 months old, and assessing health and social support needed for mom/caregiver and baby. Provisional supports for pre and postnatal health are given to qualifying individuals.

Are you interested in walking? Walking rocks!
Wednesday and Friday mornings, at 9 am until 10am

Just 30 minutes a day walking outdoors can tone your limbs, strengthen your heart, lower stress and risk of chronic diseases, and increase energy! We meet twice a week, Wednesday and Friday mornings, at 9 am until 10am, at the doors of the Huntington Hills Community Centre. Strollers and dogs are welcome!

Outreach Community Advocate
We are working together in partnership with the Bow West Community Resource Centre and Aspen Family services to meet the needs of our single and senior neighbors in the ever-expanding North West and North Central Calgary. A community advocate will be at Huntington Hills Community Association to provide outreach, information, and basic needs referrals for singles, seniors and adults experiencing economic challenges.
